The Religious Republic of Mist Haven is a colossal, efficient nation, ruled by President Gauge Sullens with an even hand, and remarkable for its fear of technology, daily referendums, and prohibition of alcohol. The compassionate, democratic, devout population of 2.637 billion Mist Havenians are prohibited from doing almost everything except voting, which they do timidly and conservatively.
The large, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Spirituality, Environment, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Elioria. The average income tax rate is 66.6%, and even higher for the wealthy.
The powerhouse Mist Havenian economy, worth 208 trillion Ørens a year, is quite specialized and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Beef-Based Agriculture, Trout Farming, and Cheese Exports. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 78,911 Ørens, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.
A newly discovered small mammal's name translates into Mist Havenian as 'your finger, you fool', elections have become procedural nightmares due to voters persistently rejecting candidates, visiting dignitaries often end up cuddling in the hot tub with President Gauge Sullens, and the people's love for President Gauge Sullens is little more than self-preservation. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Mist Haven's national animal is the Ticaducas, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Southern Baptist Christianity.
A few things about us:
Flag:
It was a dull, rainy day in 1892 when an explorer named Seln Dimel stood on a mountain peak, and claimed the land as far as he could see as the Territory of MistyHaven. Dimel had served as an explorer for Tinsun for dozens of years, but now the 61 year old man was exploring for himself. He and his crew were called the “Inventoribus,” meaning “The Finders.” It was a 13 man crew, manning the Lonelsi sailing ship that they used to travel from island to island. Seln Dimel surveyed this land carefully. It was a very large island, over 3.7 Million square miles. The land had beautiful mountains in the north, large plains and prairies in the south, stunning beaches and tropical jungles in the east, and breathtaking cliffs and lakes in the west. Dimel and his crew built a small building in which to sleep and eat, and they also built MistyHaven’s first church, “Fides in Damnum Sanctuary.”
In 1894, after surveying the whole island, half of the men left in the Lonelsi heading to go get their families. Whenever they returned, four more buildings had been built, one being a personal office for Seln Dimel, who was now trying to encourage more people to come. The families started to branch off into other parts of the island, as more people journeyed in. By 1896, the population of the territory had risen to 304.
Of course, there were dangers. One day, a newly married couple (the first people ever married in the territory), we’re on a picnic by a lake in the west. They spotted a creature, looking much like a cat, but also like a dog. It was about the size of a large panther. They named it a Ticaduci, and after many spottings, the residents decided to call it a Ticaducas. It was the first known dangerous creature in the territory.
In 1899, Seln Dimel died. In his desk, there were papers found that seemed to be the draft of a constitution. Dimel’s nephew confiscated the papers, and it was reported that they were later burned. At this point, the people on the island had found that most resources were plentiful and were self producing, and farming was not hard at all. However, there seemed to be no one in charge, so people began to argue and fight. It seemed that families had their own private wars, and the now over 4,000 people were on the brink of a total civil war. That’s when Ovel Tirius, a 39 year old farmer from south MistyHaven built a church. This was only the second church ever built in the territory, but it was large enough for over 200 people. There, Tirius preached and was seen as the highest ranking man on the island.
Whenever the year 1900 arrived, Ovel Tirius spoke to the church about becoming a nation. The people all seemed to agree, so Tirius wrote several pages of a constitution. He presented to the church a month later, and by 1901, all of the islands families had signed their mark on the paper. MistyHaven was now deemed Mist Haven. They were officially a nation. Tirius was voted in as the president, and under his new leadership, towns were built and more and more people flooded into the new nation.
